Queries and the Query Builder

Wednesday, February 28, 2024

A query is a way to get specific information from a database by asking questions in a set format. In EMS, you can use the Query Builder function from the Reports menu to create and save queries for retrieving data from your EMS database.

Using the Query Builder

To start working with a query, go to Reports > Queries > Query Builder on the EMS menu bar. Here, you’ll see a list of all the queries that are currently active in your EMS database. If you want to see all queries, regardless of status, click “Show” and then “Inactive.”

To create a new query, click “New.” If you want to edit an existing query, select the query and click “Copy” to make a copy that you can edit. The Query Builder Filter dialog will open, where you can enter or edit the necessary information for the query.

You’ll see different tabs for setting up the query, including the Query Builder Filter tab, Display Fields tab, Filter tab, Sort tab, Chart tab, and Users tab. Once you’ve entered the required details, you can save the query by clicking “OK.” The named query will then appear under the Reports menu in the Queries section.

If you want to see the results of the query immediately, you can click on the Results tab and then click “Preview.” After reviewing the results, you can save the named query for future use by clicking “OK.”
